Happy children's Day

Presents for the little ones this Children's Day! Celebrate the joy of being a child. Popo bought cutlery for the grandchildren and yee yee and I bought Disney towels for the 4 kiddos.

phonics and reading

Right now, Raenen is attending 2 enrichment classes- KinderArt and Fastrackids. I signed him up as they are offered in his school. He has been in KinderArt since 3.5 years old and fastrack since begnning of this year. I thought preschoolers should be enjoying their childhood, exposing them & learning what they love rather than always rushing for the different enrichment. I could say none of the 2 classes are academically linked as they have nothing to do with language, numbers etc. Art is his love and as for Fastrack program, it is simply to broaden his knowledge on everything under the sun.
Knowing that, my friend commented that I am simply not a kiasu parent afterall since I didnt even sign him up for phonics, chinese classes & etc. Actually I did comtemplate on sending him to phonics class after hearing so many of the different classes that Raenen's classmates are attending untill I came across this blog http://tamarindphonics.blogspot.com/.
This working mother actually got her children to learn phonics at home, and I did the same, tweaking some of the things that this mother did for her children. As Rae is already 5, and most of the phonics are already being taught in preschool so I actually use her method to reinforce what Raenen has learnt. With this, it has improved his recognition of sight words and confidence in reading.
I can say Raenen has shown much improvement in reading and comprehending the story.
He is also very enthuse to impress me with words that he learnt in school. Like recently, he came back and told me about the 'ee' words he learnt in school, telling me words like bleed, seed, sleep, & deed. Previously, he used to tell me ' i dont know or i've forgotten ' when i asked about his school. I'm very happy for Raenen! Well done boy!

The next project for me is to get him to read in Mandarin, because i heard him say 'zui ba' (mouth) out of tune yesterday. :( 发音都错了. Guess i'm slowly evolving... Hmm think it's just a matter of time.

Mid Autumn Festival

It's the time of the year to eat mooncake and carry lanterns. We brought the children out to the park for some laterns carrying after quick dinner @ pepper lunch... Night shots with the children are difficult, these are the best for that night. We brought the children back to Popo's house to have fun with the sparklers, it was their first time with the sparklers. They love it! But I was so tired after the walking and didnt take any photos, waiting for iris Yeeye's. :)

It's Sunday! It's Wii time with Dadddy! We make it a point to only allow Rae to play Wii on Sunday. Right now, the focus is on Super Mario, bought the game for 2-3 months but we are still in world 1, progressing towards World 1-6. Simply because Rae loves world 1-3 where there's the dinosaur that you can hop on, eat up the enemies, munch on the apples and even fly. And I think Yeeyee praised Rae for doing it so well, and that's make it his favourite so he doesn't like to move on as the stages get more difficult too.

It's usually an absolute 'no sharing' policy for these 13 - 24 mths old toddlers as they have no concept of sharing. But thats not the case when I was quietly observing them the other day.
